En Igueste de San Andrés, en una casita blanca próxima al mar, cuentan que nació en 1800 el pirata tinerfeño, Ángel García, popularmente conocido como Cabeza de Perro debido a sus característicos rasgos físicos.

Cuentan que el pirata Cabeza de Perro poseía un palacio en La Habana (Cuba) cuyo aspecto exterior era el de una dulcería, pero que por dentro se encontraba repleto de espejos y lámparas con incrustaciones de oro, cu

artos repletos de arcas de dinero, joyas, etc., y donde las habitaciones se comunicaban con puertas secretas que daban a los sótanos de la muerte donde su fiel servidor, Plácido el Mulato, esperaba a sus víctimas. La hazaña más conocida de este pirata fue el asalto que, desde su barco insignia El Invencible, efectuó al bergantín El Audaz en su recorrido desde La Habana a Nueva York.

En la refriega acuchilló a los tripulantes y pasajeros, excepto a una mujer y a su hijo, quienes se habían escondido; no obstante, cuando ambos fueron descubiertos los arrojó al mar, al tiempo que hundía el barco y emprendía la retirada.

Cuentan algunos autores que, desde ese momento el pirata cambió de actitud, ya que aquel llanto infantil le quedó grabado en su mente, de tal manera, que el remordimiento no le permitía conciliar el sueño.

Además, como notaba que envejecía rápidamente, expresó a sus socios, personas de elevado rango social, su deseo de abandonar la piratería e incluso entregarse a la justicia, pero su hijo le disuadió, porque ello induciría a descubrirlos a todos.

Comenzó entonces a frecuentar la Iglesia y entabló amistad con un clérigo, también oriundo de Tenerife, quien lo convenció para que regresara a su isla natal, tomando el pirata la decisión de volver de nuevo a su antigua casa, en Igueste San Andrés, en donde dedicaría su tiempo a labrar la tierra y por las tardes se sentaría a observar los barcos surcando la mar.

Fue así como ataviado de indiano -traje blanco, sombrero, anteojos de hombre respetable y acompañado por una cotorra- embarcó en El Tritón. Durante la travesía no salió del camarote y solo al oír el grito de tierra fue cuando subió a la cubierta para contemplar el Teide y su casita de Igueste.

Al llegar al puerto de Santa Cruz de Tenerife desembarcó totalmente transformado, ya que llevaba pantalones anchos por encima de los tobillos, una chupa de grandes faldones, sombrero de guano de ala ancha, un paraguas y una jaula con la cotorra; su feo aspecto fue motivo de comentarios jocosos, a la vez que de burla por una multitud de chiquillos -situación que el pirata rechazaba con el paraguas- lo que originó que aquellos palanquines le tiraran piedras hasta dejarlo herido en el suelo.
